Distinguished Guests,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
It is my pleasure to welcome you to the 22nd International Transport, Transit, and Logistics Exhibition – TransLogistica Caspian!
The past year has been a remarkable one for our country. For the first time, Azerbaijan hosted the 29th session of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP29). This milestone not only reinforced our nation’s global standing but also paved the way for new initiatives in the adoption of sustainable and innovative transport solutions.
As part of the conference, the high-level event "Ministerial Roundtable on Sustainable, Digital Middle Corridor and Beyond" highlighted the confidence and trust placed in both Azerbaijan and the Middle Corridor.
Under the strategic vision set forth by President Ilham Aliyev, Azerbaijan continues to take decisive steps toward becoming a major transport and logistics hub in the region. Large-scale infrastructure projects are being implemented, and close cooperation is being fostered with countries along key transport corridors.
In the past year, the Baku–Tbilisi–Kars railway’s cargo capacity has been increased to 5 million tons, strengthening transit routes along the Middle Corridor and reinforcing Azerbaijan’s role as a transportation center. Meanwhile, the second phase of Baku International Sea Trade Port is underway, which will expand its annual cargo capacity to 25 million tons and 500,000 TEU.
Furthermore, Azerbaijan has signed key international agreements to support the development of transit corridors. Among these are the Joint Declaration on Strategic Partnership between Azerbaijan and China, aimed at enhancing the Middle Corridor, and the New Agreement on Increasing Transit Shipments between Azerbaijan and Russia, supporting the development of the North-South Corridor. These agreements solidify Azerbaijan’s role in international transport networks and contribute to global trade flows.
As a result of these efforts, transit volumes in Azerbaijan reached 14.5 million tons last year, and the number of block trains from China via the Middle Corridor increased to 300. We anticipate this figure to reach 1,000 by 2025. The measures taken to strengthen Azerbaijan’s strategic role in global freight transportation have led to a growth in cargo shipments in both East-West and West-East directions. Moreover, the anticipated opening of the Zangezur Corridor will serve as a key strategic link between transport routes, further enhancing trade and regional cooperation.
Today, the core objective of our transport policy is to integrate global best practices, introduce new ideas and concepts, and ensure their effective implementation. This approach aims to develop an efficient, reliable, and predictable transport system that leverages the latest technological advancements to maximize Azerbaijan’s logistics potential.
In line with this vision, a new national transport and communications platform, "Azerbaijan Transport and Communications Holding" (AZCON), has been established by a presidential decree. This holding will streamline operations across the country’s transport and communications entities, ensuring a unified and efficient management structure.
Significant progress is also being made in the digital transformation of the transport sector. A unified digital platform is being developed to connect all stakeholders in the supply chain, improving operational efficiency, transparency, and coordination across different transport modes.
Dear exhibition participants,
I am confident that this year’s TransLogistica Caspian will once again serve as an important platform for showcasing innovations and fostering new business partnerships. I extend my best wishes to the organisers and participants for a successful and productive exhibition.
Thank you!
Sincerely,
Rashad Nabiyev
Minister of Digital Development and Transport
of the Republic of Azerbaijan
