On June 4 the 21st Caspian International Transport, Transit and Logistics Exhibition Translogistica Caspian, which is being held in parallel with Baku Energy Week, opened at Baku Expo Centre. The traditional TransLogistica Caspian exhibition has been focusing on the main areas of the transport and logistics sector for many years and once again emphasises the country's essential role as a transport hub.
At the opening ceremony of the Baku Energy Week, Stephan Murtagh, Advisor to the Ica Group, United Kingdom, addressed the participants with a greeting from the organizers. Mr. Murtagh referred to the history of the Caspian Oil and Gas exhibition, which originated 30 years ago with the signing of the renowned “Contract of the Century.” He underscored how this pivotal event paved the way for a significant forum in the energy sector. Mr. Murtagh stressed Azerbaijan's integral role in hosting major international events, showcasing the progressive policies of the country’s leadership and the increasing global respect for Azerbaijan. In conclusion, the speaker expressed gratitude to President Aliyev for his unwavering support of this valuable partnership.
The guests and participants of the exhibition listened attentively to the opening speech by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev. During his address, President Aliyev highlighted the significance of the renowned “Contract of the Century,” which heralded a new era in the oil history of the republic.
This historic agreement served as a cornerstone that shaped Azerbaijan's primary energy strategy. Thirty years have passed since its inception. Over the years, the nation progressed amidst the active restoration of independence, despite facing challenges such as the occupation of a significant portion of our territory by separatists and hosting a large population of refugees.
The global expansion of oil production has garnered substantial investments in Azerbaijan, contributing positively to economic growth and social policies. Each year, our country receives heightened attention from global powers.
In 2024, Baku Energy Week coincides with another noteworthy occasion. This year has been officially designated as the “Year of Solidarity for the Green World” at the national level.
The Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of the Republic of Türkiye, Alparslan Bayraktar, emphasized the inseparable nature of the fraternal Azerbaijani-Turkish relations across all domains. He emphasized how the honourable traditions of the “Contract of the Century” have played a pivotal role in enhancing the efforts for energy security in both the Caspian region and Europe. Minister Bayraktar also underlined the significance of advancing regional projects, especially in the realm of transportation routes.
Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, the President for the COP28 and Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology of the United Arab Emirates, underscored the significance of this gathering, which united prominent figures from the energy sector. Recognizing Azerbaijan's notable achievements in ensuring energy security in Eurasia, Dr. Al Jaber highlighted the necessity of collaborative efforts to address challenges in oil production and foster international professional relationships considering contemporary realities.
During his address, Harry Kamian, Senior Advisor to the US State Department for Multilateral Energy Diplomacy, made note of the promising avenues for cooperation between the United States and Azerbaijan, and quoted a letter from President Biden, acknowledging the impact of Azerbaijani ventures and the ability to promote crucial global initiatives in the field of economics and “green ecology”. The speaker emphasized that Azerbaijan is embarking on a new phase in its energy narrative - focusing on environmentally sustainable energy practices that benefit the entire region.
In her remarks, Cristina Lobillo, Director of the Energy Platform Task Force and International Relations at the Directorate−General for Energy of the European Commission, underscored the unequivocal efficacy of Azerbaijan's strategic collaboration with European economic entities and representative offices. Extensive efforts have been devoted to realizing the shared objective - delivering Azerbaijani gas to Europe. Additionally, the Speaker highlighted Azerbaijan's commendable endeavours concerning renewable energy resources and the mitigation of detrimental emissions into the atmosphere.
OPEC Secretary General Haysam Al-Qais underlined President Ilham Aliyev's remarkable role in the history of oil production. Mr. Haysam Al-Qais underscored the significance and economic viability of nations endowed with abundant mineral resources. The role these countries play in upholding global stability is difficult to overestimate. Considering that most resources serve the entire world, aiming for the collective benefit of humanity worldwide. Naturally, OPEC supports the economic projects and initiatives developed by Azerbaijan directed at enhancing energy resource production.
Director General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Francesco La Camera stressed the importance of collaborative efforts in international projects focused on human health and creating a climate-safe future. He highlighted the significance of introducing and promoting renewable energy sources in addressing energy security challenges. A comprehensive approach to solving energy security problems involves the multi-vector cooperation of regions united by a common idea and principles of globalization.
Following the symbolic ceremony of laying the foundation of solar power plants in the Absheron-Garadagh, Bilasuvar and Neftchala regions, attended by President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan and Minister Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber of the UAE, a VIP tour of the exhibition pavilions was conducted.
The event is attended by companies from Azerbaijan, Germany, Kazakhstan, Latvia, the United Arab Emirates, the Russian Federation, the United States of America, Turkey, Ukraine, France and Switzerland. With the growing interest in the successfully organized exhibition, Germany, Latvia and the United States of America have joined the list of participating countries this year.
