Construction of railway project Baku-Tbilisi-Kars in Georgia not completed yet

The construction of railway line Baku-Tbilisi-Kars in Georgia has not been completed yet.

CJSC Azerbaijani Railways (ADY) reports that work on the first (Marabda-Tetritskaro, 29.2 km) and fourth (Akhalkalaki-Kartsakhi, 26.3 km) stages of the Georgian section of the railway project has been finished. The program of works on the third stage (Tsalka-Akhalkalaki, 74.1 km) has been fulfilled partly and the construction of the second stage (Tetritskaro-Tsalka, 49.7 km) is underway.

ADY, however points to rugged relief and climatic conditions under which work is carried out. In particular, the overall slope of the railroad track is 35%. The elevation change is measured in kilometers. If railway station Marabda is situated by 750 m, station Taparavani by 2.2 km, and Kartsakhi station (last station in Georgia) by 1.85 km above sea level.
